to do a little intro.
I met a few of you at Madi's show a few weeks back…and talking with ya's convinced me to join up.
A couple of guys I've known for a couple of months now, others much longer through a forum i frequent 🙂

Anyway….name is Marty, located in Smithville.
I drive a '99 cherokee, as fresh to the mods as i am to the hobby (so ya, we're both newbs 🙂 )
I've been out once (JK101) about 2 days after i got everything wrapped up with the install and have been tweeking ever since, but i'm learning a lot at the same time so it's all good 😀

anyway…
wondering who i might contact re: an idea for NL or any other event you hold. I won't be making it this year, but i was wondering if you guys had thought about setting up a monitored basecamp (in case cell networks go for a crap).  I have an Antron a99 antenna sitting around and was wondering if you might be able to put it to use.  I've got coax etc as well, you'd just need a decent cb. We'd have to figure a way to get it +/-  20' in the air and then you just assign an emergency channel for your participants??  Anyway, just a thought

  Welcome to the forum, it was good talking with you at Madi's show. In answer to your question, Chris Muir (CC) is the lead organizer of Camp NL. We had discussed doing something like this for this years event, but the big issue is the distance. The closest trail to base camp is easily 20km away, and the majority are well over 35k. With the various state of tuning seen in the vehicles, most are lucky to get 1K at best. If you are a radio guy though, there may be some other options we could look into.

I look forward to seeing that rig on the trails, and just for the record, I had first dibs on that rear bumper Hap :p

Hey Chris, was good talking to you as well sir. 🙂

I'm just General w/honours so setting up a repeater i believe is out of my "class".  Then too, everyone needing to access that channel would in theory also need to be at least licensed. I think there might be a way around that too tho, as in an emergency you are allowed to use whatever means available to you to get help, tho that would mean at least one of the guides per group would need a hand-held.  I'll dig some more and see what ideas i can come up with.

Looks like a bumper-wrestling match may be in someone's future??? LOL

New JCR is fresh on the market gents…they start production next week.  Freakin' expensive tho…but i ordered it anyway LOL

Wow that thing looks awesome. I don't think I will be running out to get it though.  🙁

That thing is way to costly for my XJ. 2 Scoops needs way too much work to be dropping that kind of cash on just one part.  😮
