Hell all . I am looking for some input from other members in regards to insurance. I used to be insure with Aviva and last Nov. because of price difference of $300. for insuring my 2006 Dodge Ram & my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee , I decided to go with the Personal coy. Now after complying with the Personal for a Appraisal for my 1979 CJ5, they are telling me because of a wing and revolver shackles they can not insure my CJ5. I have tried ,several coy with the same answer Can't do… to old to modified etc…
Any one can give me a company name or a tel. number where I could get ALL my vehicle insure plus would also have my house in there to… Need help here because would like to out in the Spring like any Jeep owner would do..
I reside in Long-Sault (near Cornwall)but I believe that this make no difference in order to insure property.

Hi Ben,
My 1985 is insured with TD but it is liability only. I told them that when parts need to be replaced they are replaced with newer parts since the original parts are not available. Other then a 1" body lift, add a leaf all my parts are YJ parts. Having said that I have never had a claim for it.
I just called about my LJ asking if I change the fenders (metalcloak) if they would cover it… They asked me to e-mail them some details I will let you know what they say.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Hey Ben
Call my broker Palladium Insurance at 613-599-5740 and talk to Tim Snelling or Chris Barrette. Tell them you have a modified Jeep and you are part of EOTB and they will know what you are looking for.
If they get supporting business (other cars, house, etc) and you are not a kid (bwahahahaa) with go-fast mods, they can cover your Jeep as if it was a stock vehicle through Dominion of Canada. They are pretty easy to deal with and have a no-BS attitude.
Good luck!
Evan

These are who I use. They have no problem with my Scrambler. They are fully aware that it is no where near stock. They have pictures of it on file as well. Good prices too.

Hi Ben,
This is what I have found so far:
TD – NO, if you tire is not stock height it is a no. They said the Metal cloak fenders would be ok, but I am still not convinced the agent I was talking to knows what a fender is. I tried to explain, he said he understood but I think he was clueless. I think fender flares are okay.Desjardins – NO, the took everything separate: No for larger tires, No for 1" body lift, No for 2" budget boost, No for Metal Cloak fenders.
Co-operators as per above post – They said no it is not something they do, but the underwriter might accept. They will not quote on the phone, you have to be there in person with the vehicle. I explained that I have not purchased the parts for mine, she said I could go in with pictures to a local co-operators office
I have another lead, but the agent is out of the office until mid April.

State farm could be one,
Liz (14:52:34 PM): That depends, Morgan. Can you be a bit more specific? Are we talking about a truck with larger tires and a "lift kit" or other kind of size alteration. Or a sports car with extra wide wheels and engine modifications? Or snow tires? etc…
Morgan T. Buschlen (14:55:00 PM): I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler unlimited, stock right now. I am looking into these alterations: 1" body lift, 2" suspension, new front fenders, new rear fender flares, 35"x12" tires.
Liz (14:56:37 PM): Got it. All those alterations are pretty standard, so it would qualify as a customized vehicle, and State Farm would most likely insure it. We would list the additional alterations on the policy itself to take into consideration. For a quote, and to find out for sure if we will, you'll need to contact a State Farm Agent.
Morgan T. Buschlen (14:58:45 PM): okay Thanks for the helpMarch 26, 2014 at 8:14 pm #3705Anonymous

State Farm – I just talked to an agent, she said the underwriter said that Fenders and tires are fine, but No for a body lift and suspension lift. Apparently the suspension and body lift raise the center of gravity so they are not allowed, but the larger tires are okay 😉
She recommend I talk to a broker, as they should know which companies will allow which alterations.

It's all about finding the right agent who is interested and knows the right underwriter. I had the Cooperators in Bradford say they would be interested in insuring my jeep when I was there doing a service call. I said since I had a while till I renewed I would swing by in the spring with it for them to look at and see if they were still interested. I know the company I'm with now said no when I called a local agent. However when I spoke to another agent outside of the gta I got a firm yes. Keep calling and make sure you don't just deal with agents in the GTA.
