For years we have wanted to attend Trailfest. Each year something comes up that prevents us from joining many off road enthusiast at This event. 2013 was going to be different. We have many hours in building a great rig and were excited about finally having a chance to try it to its full potential with experts on hand to help us. We have watched many videos and looked at many pics of the variety of trails and rigs and see no reason our truck would not fit right in. Only after reading the entire web site did I find out we are not welcome when the website says "open to all types of off road vehicles". I think they should replace that line with " Open to all types of off road Jeeps" It all made sense after reading the bottom were it says its hosted by Just Jeeps.

At Trailfest I have seen H2s, Toyotas, Land Rovers, a stock Trailblazer, and of course Jeeps. I think you might find the tire size limitations are more pertinent in your case.

Yes I'm sure that tire size limit is put in place to reduce or eliminate the Full size trucks. Jeeps and the other vehicles you mentioned are mostly using small tires like 33" – 35". I can't think of any reason to have this limit. It's not like a 44" does more damage to the land than a 40". I think that a Jeep with 35" tires is proportional to a full size truck with 44"

Well…I have been offroading with allllll sorts of types of vehicles…..

Just my point of view….full size trucks with 44"+ tires are generally better suited for a mud bog than a twisty tight trail. But either way, anyone is welcome from what I gather???

It has nothing to do with your vehicle type, but facts are facts if a vehicle is just too large to fit a trail. I can't take a deuce and a half down most of the trails I do, doesn't mean there's any discrimination against 6WDs. Just means a deuce isn't meant to go down that trail!

If you're just too big to fit on the trail though without excessively damaging trees and widening the trail, then that's another story which has nothing to do with vehicle type. MANY MANY trails in Washington State where I'm from have maximum width requirements for that very reason.

I agree and would not attempt a trail clearly to tight for my rig. In this case that can not be the reason for the limit. I know this because there are videos on you tube from previous years at Trailfest showing the trails and showing a huge red Hummer wagon on the trails following Jeeps and smaller trucks. Never at any point having to stop because of the trail too tight. There are not many 4x4s larger in dimensions than the first gen Hummer. If this can navigate the trails at Trailfest EVERYTHING else should be fine. I have sent an email to the address on the web site in the contacts section. This email asks why we can not attend. 2 weeks have gone by with no reply. I sent another email to the same address from a different address asking a general question and got a reply in 2 days. Should I ask again? Surly it can't hurt to ask.

I'm interested in the address that you sent an email to. I'm the current president of the London and Area Jeep Owner's club who is the host club for the event.

The event is open to any 4×4 vehicle. The are a few limitations for the event. Your vehicle must be plated and insured. And the 40" tire size restriction which is a restriction of the land owner and we cannot do anything about this.

If you'd like to send your email directly to me I will ensure that it gets passed along to the approprite people.

My club email address is raymond.prince@londonjeepclub.org

Thank you Raymond for your offer to help. If this restriction is from the land owner then I will just have to accept that we are not welcome. It's too bad as many of my friends that have vehicles that are welcome will not attend knowing we all can't partisapate. Did the land owner give a reason for this restriction? Most enthusiast I mention this to ask the same question. I can't be the first one to question this restriction.

I don't know all the details but I believe there was an issue a number of years ago where some trucks with larger tires did a fair bit of damage to the trails and the main property. The land owner is very particular about his property and we've grown to respect this.

    Sorry for the let down.

It's a shame that someone actually blamed the tires for a persons negligence. So I guess a 40" or 37" tire can not do any damage. That same thing could have happened with 35" and some genius would limit everyone to stock tires, no lockers and 100 hp max. Maybe even a tread limit say no mud tires A/T only. Where do you stop. It's like banning hand guns because they kill people. People kill people. Anyways hope for the rest of your sake some moron doesn't burn up the grass with his stock Santa Fe.

actually, I think we have had that compliant as well.  Santa fea was noticed hammering through mud holes and driving crazy know bass lake road.  lol.  it doesn't matter, if the vehicle has mud on it they complain to us, straight up.

If memory serves the first year I attended trailfest there were several buggies there. Hilarity ensued and one caught fire on the trail (I didn't witness any of this first hand and/or could be misremembering) I suspect after that is when this rule came in as the owner wanted to eliminate the buggies and they tend to be the guys wheeling trucks with tires over 40". Most full size trucks like yours stay out of the tight twisty trails. I think your wheelbase will give you issues on most of those trails to. There are several trails I've been on where getting a 4 Dr jeep around the corners required a 3 or 5 point turn… Some times more. Unfortunately I suspect you would suffer damage there even where your tires allowed.

Dents and scratches don't bother me. It bothers me when people use lame excuses and ignore the real reasons. This restriction only limits the variety of rigs. But the Jeep club cares about Jeeps. This restriction does not affect Jeeps. It's ok I like being part of the 10% this affects. I don't dislike Jeeps. I just don't like having the same thing as everyone else.

Who cares WHY the land owner made the restriction! Its his land and he can do whatever he wishes.

It does affect "Jeeps"! When I was purchasing tires I made a conscious decision to limit my tire size to 40" for the sole reason of not being excluded from events such as trailfest and rocktoberfest.

Unfortunately you are the 1% because you have built an amazingly LONG ASS RIG! Its a beautiful rig but a lot of the trails can be TIGHT because the 99% have shorter wheelbases and enjoy tight technical wheeling. CC is a full body rig(WJ), he has had to repair door panels and LOTS of door handles because of it. He has built himself a serious BAD ASS RIG, while keeping his LONG ASS RIG semi intact. Sometimes it just takes him a lil longer to get around a turn, but good friends never leave a man behind.

PS. Just talking not trying to start any pissing contests or disagreements.

??? What's with the name calling Moddz  ??? Why am I a moron for having fun on those trails with my Santa Fe ?
And I wasn't driving crazy or being unsafe or nothing like that.. even stopped to chat and wave high to others. I was going slow and careful as I'm suppose too, as per safe trailing guidelines.

How about a little respect for having the guts to take my Santa Fe in there an giver a go…. I stayed on level 2 trails to be smart.
I even bought some Bad Ass Mickey Thompson All Terrain Tires for better traction.. and of which my research would suggest they're better overall tire (for On/Off road combination) than the BF AT KO's… and I'd recommend.

I'm sorry Colt that it looked like that post was aimed at you. It was not at all or in any way aimed at anyone in specific. I was only trying to show how tire size or vehicle choice has nothing to do with people being careless and causing damage. It was really just sarcasm I actually found out about your Santa Fe and trail ride after I posted that. I think it's great you put the M/Ts on it and took it off road. I sell allot of those tires I think they are great. Did you read the topic from the start? It was only aimed at my disappointment that someone would be singled out in the first place. I don't agree with stereotyping. Please accept my apology if I offeneded you or your Santa Fe in any way.
