Engine is ready to go into the Jeep now…
drilled and tapped the block off plate for my mechanical oil pressure gauge. (easy)
drilled and tapped the head for the water temperature gauge sender… (SCARY!!!)
side shot with LS3 manifolds…
the NV4500… not ready to go into the Jeep…
Top cover is off and input shaft is out…
input shaft out, but I dont have the socket to get the nut off thats holding the balancer on the output shaft off. I ordered one. Hopefully it will be here soon.. (anyone have one I could borrow in the mean time??)

Having all kinds of issues trying to find a throwout bearing that will actually work. Ordered the one from Advance Adapters, too short. Ordered a longer one for a 69 Camaro… still too short. Found the longest one I can get, its for a 1962 Chevy Bel Air. Waiting for it to come in. Hopefully it works. We'll see.
Had some fun today…
changed out the output shaft on the NV4500. I was nervous since I have never fully stripped a transmission before. It was VERY easy!!! All I have to do is modifly the socket so I can tighten the 5th gear nut. Then bolt on the tail housing and its done.Case torn down
Stripping original output shaft
assembling new output shaft
amost done… just tail housing and 5th gear nut torque

I swapped out the output shaft of the NV4500. Assembled the whole thing. Test fit the t-case. Since I had a clocking ring on it, the input shaft of the 300 didnt go far enough into the 4500. There is a seal that the input shaft rides on to seal the expensive 4500 specific oil. My solution? Take off the tail housing and drill it out to clock the t-case where I wanted and eliminate the clocking ring…
note: the 3 holes at the 3 o'clock position, is not a screw up. Advance Adapters puts an extra hole there for some reason.
Top hole on the 300 wouldnt work with the 4500, so I drilled and tapped the 300.
I have been waiting for my new throwout bearing for over a week now. (had to be special ordered) Apparently no one keeps a throwout bearing for a 1962 Chevy Bel Air in stock…
Well got it this morning… and it was still to short. I did some figuring and was able to get it all to work by shimming out the pivot ball with 3 washers. Does the trick…Drivetrain all mated together…
NOTE: dont attempt to mate the 4500 to the bellhousing without a cherry picker. You're not that strong. (I know I'm not anyways…)
In the frame rails…
Sitting pretty much in the final position. Was able to install the drivetrain so I dont have to modify my driveshafts! :D:D

Didn't have to build completely new motor mounts either. Was able to cut the tabs off of my frame mounts and reuse them.
Trans hangs below the frame, but I'm not putting a body lift on the Scrambler. I hate body lifts, no matter how much or little they are…
More work will be done tomorrow. Passenger side motor mount is painted and drying. Driver's side has to be welded. I will be making a t-case cross member tomorrow. Once thats done, Gonna have to start figuring out the exhaust and all the little details.

Tranny looks high enough you shouldn't hit any speed bumps at the mall 😛

Motor mounts done…
Transmission mount done…
Cross member is done. Just need to clean it up and paint it. That wont be done until I fab up skid plates, which wont be for a
while. Kind of looks like a something that belongs on Star Trek…Drool shot… 😀 😀 😀 (drive train is offset 1" to the drivers side to allow t-case to be clocked a bit…)

I guess its time for an update…
Been working my a$$ off trying to get this done before the end of July because we are heading do to Michigan for a Scrambler only event… many set backs and many parts orders. FedEx guy is visiting me alot now.
Installed Lokar throttle cable. These are awesome! I ended up cutting my old 4.0L throttle cable and used the end that attaches to the throttle pedal, put it on the lokar TC and cut the TC to length and DONE!! easy as pie..
Finished the PSC power steering install. I was lucky that the pump from my old engine bolts right up to the 5.3l, just had to swap the pulleys. Made a mount for the reservoir and made up new lines for it.
Working on exhaust now.
passenger side
driver's side (quick disconnect to make removal and installation easy)
Y pipe
Here is my parts depot right now… and there is still more coming..

Got clutch linkage all figured out and working perfect..
New parts vs Stock partsshortened the linkage by 1 3/4"
other pics…
Got the grill done today… Fabbed up a rad guard out of expanded metal. Installed Hella "supertone" horns (LOUD!!!) and installed the radiator.

Well, I extended the wiring harness at the computer, approximately 10"…. every single wire… all 4 billion wires…
Mounted the computer to the inner passenger side fender using a factory GM computer mounting bracket.
pretty much finished the wiring under the hood, just have to secure the harness to the firewall.
Fan wired up. used 2, 70 amp relays for HIGH and LOW speed. Its controlled by the computer (hopefully, have yet to test it) I also wired in an override switch, OFF, and HIGH.Mounted the fuse block for the engine harness on the battery mount. Also mounted the fuse for the rad fan too.
only have a few minor things to do (besides make front shock towers and skid plates)
Will get back at it probably on Tuesday. HOPEFULLY drive it out of the garage on Wednesday. Thursday or Friday get tubing bent up for shock towers…July 14, 2012 at 12:25 pm #2173Anonymous

Pretty clean work Mike, nice job on the electrical, 🙂
2 questions for you-
When you were extending the ECM leads, was moving it inside the tub for better elelment protection an option?
What's the multipin plug for on the side of the fuse block you added? Looks like an OBD2, do you have a cover to keep the crap out of the terminals?
OK thats 3, so sue me 😛

Moving it inside would have been a pain. Mounting the computerunder the dash is great but i want to be able to remove it quickly if needed. (servicability)
Plug on fuse block is obd2 port. Havent given it much thought for dirt and such. I can move it inside the Jeep (not that that would keep it clean. I am thinking of getting a bluetooth plug in thingy so i can use my phone for diagnostics and guages too. If i leave that plugged in, it would keep it clean…
Thanks for the compliments! 🙂

York Compressor mounted.
Cant really see it but had to use a LS1 tensioner. Had to build a bracket for it and flip it around so it would work with the way I had to run the serp belt for the York.
York feeds a small tank, (paint ball tank). It has been drilled and tapped for the feed, regulator, ARB lines and the output line which feeds the front and rear tanks (bumpers)
Under the hood is finished!!! (for now…) still have a couple things I want to do, but it is just cosmetic stuff, and that can wait…
