Good luck with the tires!
I'd take the side steps off – it's either that or nature will do it for you.
Thx.
I went under it today and measured.. the bottom of the bars is higher than the lowest point under the vehicle (muffler) so if not the lowest point anyways, still worth taking off ?
What kind of scenario can they be a problem ?October 14, 2012 at 1:43 am #2714Anonymous

I'm more familiar with stock steps on Jeeps. When driving around something like a stump or rock outcropping they get hung up and bend or get pulled off their attachment points. If they aren't as low as the lowest point, that doesn't matter as much as you think. The less you have hanging lower the better.
Of course, if you're being a bit more careful and don't mind spotting smaller obstacles you may be just fine.

Got the M/T installed today… leaving for hunt trip and will get to test them out on many off road trails… I know I have to play it safe.. and not try anything too challenging.. only drove on them a bit today.. so far smooth and nice ride… will report more after this trip… just in case anyone has interest in this tire as opposed to a MT typre tire..but of course in LT sizes..
Here area few picks.
Now just need 3" more ground clearance 🙂 …I'll be fine, as long as I choose my trails & play it safe.

I hate mud. On dry trails or rocks those would be just fine.

O.k. so it's been two fall/winters seasons that I've had these tires on, and so far, I love them. They handled the winter we've had great (and last one too). On road, they seem very good overall as well, for handling dry/wet conditions. In rain, if I hit the peddle, they skip/slip once and then grip and pull you. Not same as sport summer tire, of course, but good enough.
And off roading, from videos I posted over a year ago, some of the muddy and steep climbs on grassy/hard dirt, and rocky type hills (from two different areas), I made it up nice and smooth with no slipping. I'd like to think it was the tires as much as the awd lock.
They are more noisy and less fuel economy (over my OE all seasons), but comfort, I think is o.k… oh, wear is great…approx. 30K kms on them and still have most of the tread… I suspect at least 75%. They'll reach 80K rating easy…and they only cost me $890 (245/65/17) out the door and down the road…Overall great tire for someone who wants an A/T tire over a M/T tire.
Oh, if looking for tires in GTA, best prices around at this place: http://simplytire.com/
He out beat 3 other guys for my Mickey Thompsons, by at least $40/tire…See some of you on the Newbie Run
Cheers,

O.K. I'm here updating that I'm a bit of an idiot 🙁
I mentioned my A/T tires are this and that, and lower fuel economy was noticed….. Well, I take that back.. they're likely little less than the OE tires, but not much.
So, why the change… it dawned on me just over a week ago that I somehow keep forgetting to buy a K & N filter cleaning kit, and I haven't cleaned the filter in over 60,000kms… DAH !!! soon as I did, fuel economy thingy dropped 1L / 100kms.. maybe even more… I reset (which I shouldn't have) and will have to drive little longer to re-register ongoing average..but it's better for sure…. Air is important !So, the lesson for the children is, MAINTENANCE IS IMPORTANT !!! Clean your K & N filters or don't be cheap to change every 20,000 kms or whatever interval is appropriate… forgetting to buy the $15 kit, probably cost me few hunderd $$$ over last year and half… 🙁
thumbs up to Mickey's for decent rolling resistance…. mind you, engine also gets better mileage when really broken in…..

These tires were new on the market when I got them, so only found 3 reviews/road tests..but they were good, thus I went for them…and cause I kinda thought it would be cool for people to say "wtf, u have Mickey's on a Santa fe", which two buddies did….
There's lots more reviews now, and here are some of them and a new promo video….(of which they should show some off roading or something cooler).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvGerMhGdR8#t=47

one guy who loves them and had many others to compare too.

I just ordered a set this morning for my dad's Liberty – as usual he outsources things like buying new tires or a lawnmower to me.
Good to see you like them. I am sure he will too.

Did we meet at newbie run ? were you a trail guide or ? -
