My 2004 TJ has developed a leak from the input shaft of the steering box. From my understanding it’s a Mercedes sourced steering box which is harder to rebuild.

I’ve come up with a few options ordered from approximately cheapest to most expensive. Perhaps others could chime in on what they would do.

    1) keep a constant eye on the fluid level, continue parking on old cardboard to stop the jeep from staining the garage floor.
    2) Find a re-built box.
    3) Find a Saginaw box, and modify the frame/lower steering shaft to fit.
    4) Buy a new box from Mopar
    5) Buy a PSC box and plug the extra ports.

    I did a combo of 3 and 5.
I got a used psc box for a 98-2002 for cheap, then I modified the frame to take the box. It’s not too hard of a job if you can weld… Or have a friend who can. You only need to relocate one bolt hole. I picked up a lower shaft from a part out and didn’t have to modify mine. One part not on your list is the hydraulic hoses, they arn’t the same so you need those to.

As to blocking off the ports, they ship blocked off so no worries there.
