Ipsos poll news – “The greatest opportunity for expansion appears to be in 4X4, …”
The Ontario Power Sports Working Group consists of leaders from the communities of ATV, snowmobile, dirt bikes and 4×4 trucks. With the generous help of the Canadian Off Highway Vehicle Distributors Council (COHV) and Snowmobile Manufacturers Association (IMSA) we held the first “Powered Up 2020 and Beyond conference”. The conference brought together representatives from Canadian power sport federations, organizations, manufacturers, as well as key government and tourism partners. The conference was a great success..
In support of our efforts, one of the leading international market research firms, Ipsos Public Affairs, was commissioned to conduct a poll of public interest, participation and opinion of the targeted power sports activities. The poll revealed
- 73% of Canadians believe that recreational power sports perform well in contributing to quality of life and leisure. Just over half of Canadians expressed favourable opinions toward ATVing, snowmobiling, off-road motorcycling and 4×4 off-roading
- Almost one-third of Canadians are interested in participating or watching power sports and that one-quarter would want to join a power sports club.
- The poll results concluded “The greatest opportunity for expansion appears to be in 4X4, off-road motorcycling and side-by-side ROVs.”

I’m all for bringing people into this lifestyle, as long as everyone is promoting safe and responsible habits on the trails we do have access to (and the ones we don’t, but that’s a whole other story).
